Solid in-ground winter pool covers are constructed from tightly woven polyethylene with a plastic coating. Typically, these winter swimming pool covers will feature UV inhibitors to prevent degradation from sunlight.
Some covers also feature a black underside which helps to inhibit algae growth. Solid covers are the most commonly used type of in-ground pool winter covers and are relatively inexpensive. They are also quite easy to install.
However, the main advantage of solid in-ground pool covers is the fact that they prevent practically everything from penetrating the cover.
This means that rainwater, leaves and even fine debris are prevented from entering the swimming pool, leaving your pool amazingly clean for a fast and easy spring opening.
Similar to solid winter covers, mesh winter pool covers for in-ground swimming pools are constructed from super strong, highly durable woven material.
However, mesh covers do not have the same plastic coating as solid covers and, as a result, they are porous covers. This design feature allows water from rain and melting snow to pass through the cover and enter the swimming pool.
This prevents puddles from collecting on the top of the cover, making spring removal easier and cleaner, and also reduces the need to use tap water to refill the pool in the springtime.
